EDINBURG - California Baptist University women's basketball saw seven players score in double-figures on Saturday as the Lancers blew away the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, 94-78, in the UTRGV Fieldhouse. The Lancers shot a season-high 61.0 percent from the field on their way to improving their record to 18-5 overall and 9-3 in Western Athletic Conference play.
Ane Olaeta (15), Caitlyn Harper (14), and Sydney Palma (14) led the scoring charge for the Lancers, with Palma and Olaeta adding nine and eight assists apiece. Britney Thomas had a near double-double with 13 points and eight boards. Trinity San Antonio, Georgia Dale, and Nicole Avila-Ambrosi rounded out the double-figure scoring efforts with 12, 10, and 10, respectively.
This was the fourth game this season that had five or more Lancers scoring in double-figures. Previously, the feat had been accomplished against San Diego State, Northern Arizona (six players), and Dixie State. Each quarter saw the Lancers increase their lead in bunches as the Lancers went on a run of at least 6-0 in each frame.
The Lancers got it done on every level of the game, outscoring the Vaqueros 26-5 in fast break points, 54-34 in the paint, and 35-21 in bench points. The only area where UTRGV held an advantage was converting 15 offensive rebounds into 19 second-chance points.

The Lancers will close out this extended road trip next Thursday with their annual trip to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon. CBU looks to avenge the 61-52 loss it suffered against the Lopes back on February 5. The teams go at it again on the 17th with a scheduled tip at 5 pm Pacific.
