
Lancers In The Hunt After Day One At Rio Verde Invitational

RIO VERDE --- California Baptist University women's golf finished the first day of the Rio Verde Invitational in the hunt, as the Lancers closed out the first round in fourth out of 18 teams.
The three-day tournament is being held at the Rio Verde Country Club in Arizona. The 18-team field traveled in from all over the country to take on the three rounds of 18 holes.
Kennesaw State entered the clubhouse as the day one leader with a 2-under-par 286 team score. KSU holds a five-stroke lead over the field, as Xavier sits in second with a 3-over-par 291 team score. Missouri State finished one stroke ahead of California Baptist in third with an 8-over-par 296 team score, while the Lancers carded a 9-over-par 297 team score.
All five Lancers finished inside the top-20 on the day, as Jocelyn Chee led the way with an even-par 72 to place tied for sixth. Sofia Chabon, Hailey Loh, Esther Lee and Haruka Shintani all signed a 3-over-par 75 to finish T-18th.
It was a tale of two nines for the Lancers in the opening round, as a total of eight birdies were carded on the back nine compared to three on the front. The Lancers played the back nine to a 1-over-par score as a team.
Bella Kil of Kennesaw State leads the 92-player field after firing a bogey-free 6-under-par 66.
The Lancers will look to make the climb up the leaderboard on Saturday, Feb. 26, with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. (PST).
