LONG BEACH - California Baptist University softball traveled to Long Beach State on Tuesday afternoon for one final tune-up game before heading into conference play. The Beach ended up victorious on its home field, taking the game 2-0. CBU's record stands at 17-13 after Tuesday's result, while Long Beach State moves to 10-14.
The game was held scoreless for the first three-and-a-half innings until Long Beach State posted the first run on the scoreboard with a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth. Prior to collecting three hits in the fourth, The Beach had recorded the only other hit in the game, a two-out single in the bottom of the third. A wild pitch in the sixth would plate the second score for The Beach.
The Lancers managed to put three runners on the base paths during the pitcher's duel. Amanda Argomaniz and Karmyna Becerra both worked leadoff walks in the top of the third and fifth innings, respectively, and Deja Westbrook wore a hit-by-pitch in the back in the top of the sixth.
