SEDONA --- Darkness suspended play during the first day of the Red Rocks Invitational on Saturday, as the Lancers went into the clubhouse in fourth out of 19 teams.
A frost delay set the 19-team field 45 minutes back from the original shotgun start, as all pairings had to call it a day with two to three holes left in the second round.
The two-day tournament is being hosted at Oak Creek Country Club in Arizona. Grand Canyon finished the day with a four-stroke lead with a current 3-under-par team score. Northern Arizona sits in second with a 1-over-par team score, Illinois State is in third with a 2-over-par team score, and the Lancers round out the top teams in fourth with an 8-over-par team score.
Coming off an individual medalist at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, Jocelyn Chee is back in the driver seat with a 4-under-par total on the day. Chee finished the first round with a 2-under-par 70 and is currently 2-under through 16 holes in the second round. She leads the field of 104 golfers by one stroke.
Filipa Capelo is currently T-22nd after a 4-over-par 76 in the first round, while Sofia Chabon and Haruka Shintani are T-36th with a 6-over-par total through 16. Hailey Loh is T-68th and is 11-over-par on the day.
The Lancers will finish the second round with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. and look to move up the leaderboard in the final round on Tuesday.
