
Chee Takes Solo Lead After Day One At Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

EWA BEACH --- Jocelyn Chee produced a career-best 5-under-par in the opening round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers finished the first day in third out of 10 teams.
Chee, a graduate senior from Kedah, Malaysia, was on fire in the first round, recording seven birdies, two bogeys, and nine pars for the new career low. The 5-under-par 67 becomes tied for second all-time for a low round in 18 holes.

Chee finished the day with the solo lead of a 2-under-par 67-75=142 to lead the field of 58 golfers by one stroke.
Haruka Shintani and Sofia Chabon joined Chee in the top-20 for the Lancers, as Shintani finished with a 5-over-par 75-74=149 to place T-11th, while Chabon sits at T-16th with a 7-over-par 75-76=151.
Hailey Loh is currently in T-29th after a 9-over-par 77-76=153. Esther Lee finished her day at T-37th with a 12-over-par 75-81=156. As for the individuals, Filipa Capelo ended her day in 36th with an 11-over-par 78-77=155, while Belle Balkan signed an 82-85=167 to place 55th.
The two-day tournament is being held at Hoekalei Country Club, as the golf course is playing at a par 72 at 6,123 yards. The field includes four top 100 teams, including No. 72 Sacramento State, No. 83 Nevada, No. 90 Hawai'i, and No. 91 Grand Canyon.
Hawai'i enters the clubhouse with a two-stroke lead after a 13-over-par 589 team score. Sacramento State sits behind the Rainbow Wahine with a 15-over-par 591 team score, while the Lancers are right in the mix with a 17-over-par 593 team score.
The Lancers will look to take over the top spot in the final round on Tuesday, March 9, with a shotgun start at 9:45 a.m. (PST).
