GENEVA – Incoming California Baptist University wrestling recruit Mitchell Mesenbrink added to his growing list of accomplishments at the U20 World Team Trials over the weekend.
Mesenbrink won the 70 kilogram championship to earn the right to represent Team USA at the U20 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria (August 15-21). He will be joined at the World Championships by another incoming Lancer, Adrian Limon, who won at the Mexican National Championships to earn a spot on the Mexican U20 World Team at 57 kg.
Mesenbrink won his way to the U20 World Team Trials in Ohio last weekend after he won the U20 US Open in May. He punched his ticket to the World Championships after defeating Penn State signee and former top-ranked wrestler Levi Haines in consecutive matches. In the first meeting with Haines, Mesenbrink won on criteria, 2-2, and then came away with a 7-2 victory in the final bout of the best-of-three series.
The Wisconsin native was also chosen to represent the United States at 70 kg at the Pan-American Championships in Oaxtepec, Mexico on July 8-10.
