RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University wrestling is all set to start its first season of full membership in the Big 12 Conference and NCAA Division I, with the release of its 2022-23 schedule.
There are 18 events on the schedule for the Lancers. Home-and-away duals are split nearly evenly with seven home duals and eight on the road, including a total of eight Big 12 Conference matchups. CBU will also take part in three tournaments in the regular season: the Roadrunner Open, Cliff Keen Invitational and Reno Tournament of Champions.
The season will officially begin on Nov. 5 when the Lancers host both Vanguard and Cal Poly for a doubleheader home dual. CBU will then hit the road to face storied programs Iowa State (Nov. 12) and Iowa (Nov. 13) before returning to Riverside to host its first Big 12 opponent in Utah Valley (Nov. 18).
November comes to a close and tournament season begins with CSU Bakersfield's Roadrunner Open on Nov. 20. The Lancers will then compete at the elite Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas (Dec. 2-3) and Reno Tournament of Champions (Dec. 18) to close out the 2022 portion of the campaign.
CBU will enjoy some home cooking after that, with four of its next five duals coming at home. The Lancers will host Northern Illinois and South Dakota State for a home doubleheader on Jan. 7 before a big dual at Stanford (Jan. 12). California Baptist will then close out its home season with Big 12 duals against North Dakota State (Jan. 14) and Air Force (Jan. 21).
The Lancers will close out the season on the road, with trips to Wyoming (Jan. 28), Northern Colorado (Jan. 29), Northern Iowa (Feb. 4), CSU Bakersfield (Feb. 12) and Hofstra (Feb. 18). It will all lead up to March when CBU is eligible to compete at the Big 12 Championships (March 4-5) and NCAA Championships (March 17-19) for the first time. Both championships will take place in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
