
Lancers Close Out Big West/WCC Clash Against UC Irvine and UC San Diego

IRVINE/TUSTIN - The Lancer men's water polo team concluded the Big West/WCC Clash against #9 UC Irvine and #11 UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon, dropping two tight games, 11-7 and 12-9, respectively. The weekend's results set the Lancer season record at 8-12, with 13 of those contests coming against ranked opponents.
Bodhi Bowden led the Lancers over the long weekend with 16 goals in six games, including a career-best five goals against Wagner on Friday. Cameron Cullen wasn't far behind, netting a dozen scores with 10 assists. Caleb Teraoka rounded out the top-three point scorers with seven goals and 10 assists.
GAME ONE: #9 UC IRVINE - #16 CBU
The Anteaters jumped to an early lead in Sunday morning's opener, leading 3-2 after the first and 5-2 at the half. The Lancer defense held its own, holding UCI to just 11 goals, three less than their season average. The Lancers did so with the help of 11 total steals.
Marcus Lodewyk shined bright against the Anteaters, scoring two goals and assisting on another three against the top-10 foe.
GAME TWO: #11 UC SAN DIEGO 12 - #16 CBU 9
The Lancers hung right there with the Tritons through the full 32 minutes, but the Tritons would outscore the Lancers by one in the first three periods, building the final score gap.
Cullen led CBU with two goals and two assists in the second meeting with the Tritons, while Bowden capped his opulent scoring weekend with another multi-score game. Senior goalkeeper Trevor Benge would finish the long weekend with eight more stops against UCSD, giving him a total of 46 over the course of the six games.
The Lancers have another heavy schedule planned for next week, starting their WCC home opener at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday against Santa Clara. After that, CBU's annual tournament, The Joust, kicks off with the Lancers set to face off against Fresno Pacific and UC Merced on Friday and Westcliff and Toronto on Saturday.
