RIVERSIDE - Less than one week after opening Western Athletic Conference play with a loud 3-0 victory over Grand Canyon, the Lancers will welcome their second league opponent in the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Leo Mendez had a hand in all three goals against the Lopes, scoring the first two and assisting on the third. His incredible efforts in such a high-profile matchup earned him a spot in the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week and WAC Offensive Player of the Week. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Nolan Premack has been back in his starting role for four games and has gone nearly 420 minutes without allowing a goal at home.
UTRGV AT A GLANCE
UTRGV has been a formidable foe for CBU since joining the WAC in 2018. The Vaqueros are the only WAC team the Lancers still need to beat, as Thursday's match will be the sixth installment between the two sides, with the series currently standing at 0-4-1 since 2018.
UTRGV enters Thursday's match with a 4-5 record overall and a 1-1 record in WAC play. They began the conference slate with a 3-2 home win over UNLV before falling 1-0 to Utah Tech. All three of the Vaqueros' goals came in the first half of their game, which means they have been searching for the net for three halves.
Thursday's game is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at CBU Soccer Stadium and will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
