
Five Lancers Win Titles at Roadrunner Open

BAKERSFIELD — California Baptist University wrestling set out on its first tournament action of the 2023-24 season and saw five Lancers win individual titles at the Roadrunner Open at CSU Bakersfield on Sunday.
Elijah Griffin (125 pounds), Hunter Leake (133), Emilio Trujillo-Deen (141), Dayne Morton (149) and Nathan Haas (184) all won their weight classes in Bakersfield. Nolan Miller-Johnston (157) and Justin Phillips (174) finished runner-up, while Mitchell Neiner (125), Chaz Hallmark (157)and Peter Acciardi (174) took third.
Griffin went 4-0 on the day, with a pair of technical falls (18-1, 15-0) and two pins, including one in the championship round.
Leake won all three of his matches by decision with scores of 10-6, 4-1 and a 3-2 overtime win in the championship.
Trujillo-Deen ran through the tournament his bracket with a 4-0 record that included a pin, major decision and two decisions in the semis and finals.
Morton started his day with an 18-1 technical fall victory, followed that up with two decisions and a 30-second pin that secured him the title.
Haas' three wins came on a technical fall, major decision and 14-11 decision in the championship bout.
The Lancers have about a month off before their next competition, a dual at Northern Illinois on Dec. 15.
