The Lancers would challenge but eventually fall to both the Rams and the Tigers, 8-4 and 2-1, respectively. The Lancers now stand at 3-4 on the younf season with three more game on the docket this weekend.
GAME ONE: COLORADO STATE 8 – CBU 4
CBU opened the day against the Rams of Colorado State, who had played in the days opening action, falling to CSUN 6-2. Presley Hosick got the starting nod for the Lancers, continuing her hitless streak for the first three innings to make it 10.2 innings of no-hit pitching to begin her CBU career.
The Lancers got on the board first in the bottom of the second as Samantha Demyon smacked a single to left field, scoring Valarie Alvarez to take the 1-0 lead. They would add another in the fourth as Demyon again came up big for her teammates, plating pinch runner Molly Kolander with an RBI double.
CSU would answer loudly, plating three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make it 8-2. The Lancers didn't accept their fate and fought back. Alisa Montes De Oca faced the Ram pitcher with two outs, and the bases loaded, sending one to center field and scoring Natalie Elias and Ryley McDaniel to make it 8-4 before the inning ended.
Hosick got her first loss as a Lancer, throwing 4.1 innings while allowing three hits, two earned runs, and just three walks. Demyon led CBU at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBI in the effort.
GAME TWO: PACIFIC 2 – CBU 1
The night's final game pitted the Tigers against the host Lancers, who were still recovering from a marathon game with Colorado State that lasted just five minutes shy of three hours.
Pacific gained the upper hand in the third inning, putting runners on first and second after their first two plate appearances resulted in outs. A walk and a single later scored on a double to left center, accounting for all of the Tigers' runs in the game.
The Lancers would answer in the bottom of the fifth, starting with Maya Martinez's leadoff double to deep center. She would score easily two batters later as Karmyna Becerra brought her home with a double of her own. CBU would threaten with a runner on second with one out in the seventh but couldn't finish the rally.
Morgan McConnell was saddled with her third loss of the season, pitching well, throwing a complete game with seven hits allowed, two earned runs, two strikeouts, and a walk.
CBU plays twice more on Saturday, first with a scheduled game against CSUN at 12:30 p.m. and a second game at a time to be determined based on tournament results after the first six games.
