CBU Finishes Their Regular Season in New York; Focus Shifts to BIG 12 Championships

HEMPSTEAD--- The California Baptist University Wrestling team competed in their final dual of the season with an East Coast trip to Hempstead, New York, to face the Hofstra Pride. The Lancers finished their 2022-2023 campaign with a tightly contested match with Hofstra as the Pride took it 21-15.
The Pride received votes in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Mid-Major poll and is a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. The Lancers claimed victory in four bouts with two major decisions and two decisions.
Frank Almaguer stayed hot with a dominating 21-8 victory in which he registered a season-high and team-high nine takedowns en route to the major decision win. Almaguer has now won four of his last six duals and earned his first major decision of the season.
Peter Acciardi came in as a winner of four of his last six duals and left with another victory as he took his bout 11-2 and earned four points for the Lancers. Acciardi's takedown with 36 seconds left in the second period secured the major for CBU and gave him his second of the season.
After dropping three straight to the Pride, Hunter Leake put CBU back on the board with a 6-0 decision win. It was the third time this season that Leake has not surrendered a single match point to his opponent. Chaz Hallmark finished his season strong, earning the major decision victory over Michael Leandrou 10-0.
