RIO VERDE, ARIZONA – California Baptist University women's golf began the three-day Rio Verde Invitational on Friday afternoon against a strong 18-team field. The Lancers rose to the challenge on day one, posting a cumulative score of +8 (296) to sit alone in second place. Xavier holds the lead after 18 holes, turning in a +5 (293) on day one.
The Musketeers may have the team lead, but CBU's Samantha Dizon is one of just two golfers in the red after one day, posting a round-one best of -2 (70) on the 6044-yard layout. After one day, teammate Haruka Shintani is T4, turning in a card of +1 (73), the same as eight other competitors. Sofia Chabon is T19 with a +3 (75), followed by Hailey Loh and Esther Lee at +6 (78). It'll be another 18 holes on Saturday, and since it's just one round per day, tee times are set for an afternoon shotgun start in Arizona.
