RIO VERDE, ARIZONA – California Baptist University women's golf teed it up for day two of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, playing well but dropping one spot in the team rankings to third. The Lancers shot a combined 12-over (300) on Saturday, opening the door for Kennesaw State to overtake the second-place position.
CBU sits at +20 for the tournament, now five strokes behind KSU for silver. Xavier has set themselves up with a generous cushion going into the final round as the Musketeers shot just 1-over on Saturday to close out the first 36 holes with a +5 (582).
Friday's overall leader Samanth Dizon gave back a few strokes on Saturday, ending the day at +3 and in T5 with four other golfers. Sofia Chabon was one of just eight players in the field of 93 to shoot even or better in round two. Chabon carded an even 72, keeping her at 3-over for the tournament and also T5 going into the final round. CBU's standings are rounded out by Haruka Shintani (+4/T10), Hailey Loh (+10/T45), and Esther Lee (+11/T52). Nothing is guaranteed yet, as Sunday's final round could become extra challenging as the forecast calls for rain all morning prior to the start of the final round. Wet rough and soggy greens could make for a very compelling final round in Arizona.
