Lancers Battle Hard in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS--- The California Baptist University Lancers faced off against their fifth top-20 opponent as they visited the #14 Northern Iowa Panthers on Friday Evening. The Panthers held serve at some with a 44-0 victory over the Lancers.
The Panthers were third heading into this matchup in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Mid-major poll trailing only Cornell and North Dakota State. The victory moved Northern Iowa to 6-3 overall and 4-2in BIG 12 play.
The Panthers had eight of their ten wrestlers ranked in the InterMat polls and even featured the #2 overall wrestler in the 184 class in Parker Keckesian (#1 in the FloWrestling poll). Five other Panthers placed inside of the top-15.
Nolan Miller-Johnston came out ready to battle with a terrific bout against #20 Derek Holschlag of the Panthers and took him the distance. Miller-Johnston trailed by only one point late in the third period before a late takedown by Northern Iowa sealed the match.
Frank Almaguer and Caden Gerlach also took their matches the distance with close, intense battles, but both would fall short in decisions. Almaguer and Gerlach both registered late reversals to keep the matches close late.
Peter Acciradi had the most challenging assignment of the night as he faced the #2 wrestler in the nation in Parker Keckeisian. Acciardi never gave up and made Keckeisian earn the major decision as Acciardi scored seven escape points in the match.
