ST. GEORGE, UT – Samantha Dizon shot 1-under par on the final day of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbirds Invitational in St. George, Utah, to finish 4-under to claim the outright individual championship. Her weekend charge led to the Lancers' second TEAM win of the season, also of the Division I era. CBU claimed the TEAM championship with a combined three-round score of 885.
Dizon was the only player to finish under par, and she did by a wide margin as Jo Baranczyk from North Dakota State was the runner-up at 1-over par. Dizon's tournament total of 212 is tied for the third-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history.
Dizon wasn't the only Lancer to have a solid final round. Damini Law Ghanshyani posted a 2-under (70) to help CBU claim that TEAM title. Law Ghanshyani started with a birdie on the second hole and closed out 1-under in the final seven holes.
Sofia Chabon claimed a top-20 finish after posting a 3-over par 75 in the final round, officially closing the trip in a tie for 19th. Haruka Shintani finished the event in a tie for 38th with a 54-hole score of 14-over, and Filipa Capelo rounded out CBU on the leaderboard with a final score of 19-over, good for a tie for 59th.
No rest for the weary. The Lancers are back on the road next week for their penultimate regular season tournament. The women will travel to Sedona, Arizona, to participate in the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona on March 18 and 19.
