STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS – California Baptist University softball opened the third Western Athletic Conference series of the season at Tarleton State on Friday, splitting the day in wildly different games, falling in the opener 2-0 before putting on an offensive showcase in the second game, winning 13-2 in five innings.
Six Lancers recorded a multi-hit game on Friday, led by Priscilla Estrada and Sydney Soto, who each hit had a three-hit game two. Estrada led all Lancers with three runs scored, while Alissa Montes De Oca paced CBU with a career-high four RBI against the Texans.
The split updates the Lancers' record to 20-15 on the season and 4-4 in WAC play. The Texans are in a similar state, now sitting at 20-18 as well as 4-4 in league play.
GAME ONE: TSU 2 – CBU 0
The first game was a classic pitchers dual that went the way of the Texans as Tarleton State would score in the first and third innings to reach the winning score line. Kayla Lyon and Mackenzie San Pedro would reach base via hit-by-pitch. Each would reach second but no further as the Texans clamped down on defense.
Alyssa Argomaniz picks up the tough-luck loss, only allowing five hits and two runs in 5.2 innings of work, moving her season record to 3-5.
GAME TWO: CBU 13 - TSU 2
The Lancers flipped the script in game two, exploding for 13 runs and 18 hits, including seven extra-base hits in the run-rule-shortened game. CBU struck first as Samantha Demyon scored Karmyna Becerra in the top of the second, only for the Texans to answer with one of their own in the bottom half.
Alissa Montes De Oca and Becerra would drive in two more in the third, regaining a lead they would not relinquish. After holding the Texans scoreless in the bottom of the third, the Lancers blew this game wide open.

CBU opened the frame with a solo shot from Demyon over the right field wall, her second of the year. They would plate seven before recording their first out and eight in total on eight hits with no defensive errors in the inning. CBU would bat around, with Demyon earning an RBI in both at-bats in the fourth.

Aside from Demyon, Sydney Soto, Montes De Oca, Becerra, and Maya Martinez would all record at least one RBI in the inning, the highest-scoring half-inning of the season so far for CBU. The Lancers would lead comfortably after that at 11-1.
TSU would get one back on a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, but CBU wasn't done there. Soto and Montes De Oca would each record another RBI in the top of the fifth to reach the 13-2 final score line. Morgan McConnell would come in and get the final three outs to secure the win for CBU.
Jazmine Castaneda earned the win in the circle for the Lancers, throwing four innings of two-hit ball, allowing two runs, but largely setting up easy ground and fly for her trusted defense to handle. Castaneda moves to 5-1 on the season, owning the best win percentage on the staff while still trailing Presley Hosick for the wins lead with six.
