CBU Competes at the Stanford and San Francisco State Invitationals

SAN FRANCISCO/ PALO ALTO--- The California Baptist University track team competed at the prestigious Stanford Invite and San Francisco State Invitational in their second spring competition of the season.
San Francisco State Invite:
CBU had nine competitors in the San Francisco State Invite, with seven finishing in the top 10 in their respective heats. Mia Cabrera on the women's side placed in the top-25 overall in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:35.65. Cynthia Martin came in second in her heat and finished tenth overall in the 5000 meter. Martin's teammates Anna Mate, Paige Haynes, and Sylvia de la Pena all finished in the top 50 in the race, with all three of their finishes coming within one second of each other.
On the men's side, Zlatko Kozuhar had the best finish in the 5000-meter competition with a 16th-place finish out of 191 runners and was second in his respective heat with a 14:25.95 time. Tyler Tickner registered a top-50 finish in the race and was tops in his heat.
Stanford Invite:
At the prestigious Stanford Invite, CBU had 14 runners in the competitions, with nine finishers in the top 10 in their respective heats. Dylan van der Hock was one of two runners to finish with a sub-14 minute time in his respective heat and had the fastest lap time thanks in part to a strong closing kick. Van der Hock's time of 3:59.66 was the sixth-fastest time in program history. Massimiliano Berti and Roman Zozulia both claimed top-15 placements in their heats.
In the 1500 meter, Christian Ricketts and Rikus Van Niekerk placed seventh in their heats and moved into the top 10 in program history for the fastest time. Matias Reynaga had the best finish in the 5000-meter event with a 13:44.58 time which was fourth in his heat and held the second-highest lap time.
Valentin Soca had one of the more impressive feats of the day with a second-place finish in the men's 10000-meter race. Soca was only 0.44 seconds behind Perry Mackinnon of Cornell. Soca outperformed his previous time by a full minute and set the program record in the race with a time of 28:34.34. Arturs Medveds and Florian de La Pallec also joined Soca in the top-10 in the CBU record book at fifth and sixth at times of 28:53.29 and 29:00.81, respectively.
On the women's side, Maelle Porcher finished first in her heat in the 1500-meter event and recorded the second-fastest lap time of the event. Porcher set a new personal best and is fourth in the program record books with a time of 4:24.03. Maja Dzialoszewska's time in thr 1500 m moved her into seventh place in the program books with a time of 4:30.05.
Greta Karinauskaite set a new program mark in the women's 5000 meter race with a time of 15:36.86 which was sixth in her heat and shattered her old record by 22 seconds.
Karinauskaite and Yasna Petrova joined Porcher with top-10 finishes in their respective heats in the 5000 and 10000 races. Petrova's time of 33:25.21 set a new program record in the 10000 m race surpassing Karinauskaite by a full two seconds.
Next, the Lancers will compete in the Mt. Sac Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational in Walnut, California, on Wednesday, April 12th.
