
CBU Heads to Sacramento for First-Ever Trip to Regionals

SACRAMENTO--- In its first year eligible, the California Baptist University track team will send six athletes to the NCAA DI West Regionals in Sacramento, California.
The West Regionals will feature athletes from some of the top-25 teams in the nation, such as USC, Washington, BYU, and Stanford. Yasna Petrova, Greta Karinauskaite, Valentin Soca, Giedrius Valincius, Matias Reynaga, and Arturs Medveds are the qualifiers for the Lancers. They will run in five different races over the four-day event.
Karinauskaite will compete in the 3000M steeplechase after running the fastest time in the nation this season at the WAC Championships. Greta ran a 9:35.55 to claim her second-straight WAC individual champion and was a top-20 fastest time in NCAA history.
Petrova will compete in the 5K and 10K races after finishing second in the 5K at the WAC Champions. Petrova had four top-5 finishes this season, including a top placement in the 5K at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine. Her time of 16:08.32 was a personal best, and she now holds three of the top 10 times in program history in the 5K. Petrova's fastest time in the 10K was set at the Bryan Clay Invitational, where she established the program's fastest time at 33:25.21 and brought home a top-10 finish.
Reynaga, Soca, and Medveds will compete in the 10K on the men's side. Soca brought home the WAC individual champion in the 1.5K in Nacogdoches at 3:42.09. Reynaga took second place in the same race, while Medveds came in fifth. Soca's fastest 10K of the year came at the Stanford Invitational, where he ran a 28:34.34, the fastest time in program history, and was good enough for a second-place finish. Reynaga and Medveds notched a pair of top-10 finishes this season in the 10K, including a top podium finish by Reynaga at the Steve Scott Invitational.
Valincius will join Soca and Reynaga in the men's 5K race. Valincius registered a second-place finish at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 13:46.77. The time was the fifth fastest time in program history and was his lone 5K race of the season.
