ANN ARBOR - The season-opening road trip came to a close on Sunday as California Baptist University men's soccer took on the Wolverines of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Due to recent storms, UM was unable to broadcast the match, which ultimately ended up with the Wolverines prevailing by a score of 2-0. CBU finishes the road trip 0-2-0, while Michigan moves to 1-0-1 on the season.
"As good as Michigan was today, this wasn't CBU soccer today, and our guys know it," stated Head Coach Coe Michaelson after the game. "This was always going to be a challenging road trip, but we are capable of much better than we showed today. We will grow from this and can't wait to get back on the field and put it right."
CBU overcame significant pressure from the Wolverines to go into halftime, still scoreless. UM let loose a dozen shots and earned nine corner kicks in the opening 45, but freshman Dorian Drucks made four saves and got help to the tune of 4 field blocks to keep the game level.
Michigan broke the deadlock just five minutes into the second half to make it a 1-0 game and added a second in the 63rd minute to reach the final scoreline.
Leo Mendez and Alexander Hasenohrl posted the Lancers' two shots on goal for the day, with four more Lancers added to the shot total before the final horn sounded. Drucks would finish the match with a career-high seven saves.
CBU opens up a three-game homestand on Saturday, September 2nd, against LMU at 8:00 p.m. The first 300 fans to arrive will receive free CBU-branded Vuvuzelas.
