MSOC PREVIEW: Lancers Head South With Momentum to Battle #22 USD

RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University men's soccer is fresh off adding a tally to their win column after taking down CSUN 3-1 at home on Sunday. Luis Mueller recorded his fourth brace as a Lancer, a feat worth of WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The Lancers' record of 1-3-1 only tells part of the story as CBU currently boasts the 17th-hardest schedule in Division I. Opening night foe West Virginia resides presently at #4 in the most recent version of the United Soccer Coaches national poll. At the same time, this week's opponent, the University of San Diego, is currently ranked 22nd in the land. LMU is still receiving votes in the poll as well.
USD AT A GLANCE
The Toreros and Lancers have one common opponent between them, with opposite results. USD fell to CSUN two weeks ago by a score of 3-1 as the two sides were tied until the 81st minute when the Matadors netted two late goals to seal the victory, even though they were playing a man down since the 64th minute. CBU defeated those same Matadors this past weekend by the same scoreline.
However, USD recovered well in their most recent game, dominating George Washington in San Diego by a score of 6-1. Five Toreros scored the six goals, and GW's lone goal came from a penalty kick off a handball.
The game is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night at Torero Stadium in San Diego and will air live on ESPN+.
