CBU Improves to Eight Game Win Streak in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, CA--- The California Baptist men's water polo team headed north on Thursday to face Santa Clara for their second West Coast Conference match of the season. The #14 Lancers took down the #17 Broncos 13-12 to maintain their perfect record in conference action, improving to 2-0, and are now 16-8 on the season.

Head Coach Kevin Rosas' squad kicked off the afternoon with a strong first period, netting seven for an early lead that was never relinquished. William Whitstone totaled 13 saves across all four periods and limited the Broncos to just a pair during the opening eight minutes to give the Lancers time to build on their lead. Santa Clara found their footing in the second frame and dented the twine four times, chipping the Lancer lead to four at the half.

California Baptist's offense struggled in the third period and went without a goal, while the home squad put away another four goals to tie the match at ten apiece. The fourth frame was a dogfight defensively, and after both teams managed to score a pair of goals, it was Bodhi Bowden with the game-winner with two minutes to spare for the 13-12 victory. The Lancers improve to an eight-game win streak for the program's longest since 2012 under the direction of Rick Rowland.

The Lancers will continue their stay in Santa Clara, competing against three more squads this weekend, beginning on Friday against #13 Harvard at noon.
