Lancers Split Final Day in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, CA--- The California Baptist men's water polo program split its final day in Santa Clara after falling to Brown 12-11 in a hard-fought match before handling Long Island University 28-5. The squad ends the weekend at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament 2-1, improving their overall record to 18-9.
CBU 11 - BROWN 12
For a second time this season, the Lancers fell to Brown on the road in a highly competitive match-up. CBU opened the first frame with a trio of goals, outscoring the Bears by one. Brown would flip the script in the second period for a tied game heading into halftime. The Ivy League School's defense showed out during the third period and limited CBU to just one goal for a three-point lead. The final quarter saw four goals from the Lancers to put themselves within one of tying the match again, but a pair of late goals from the Bears ultimately secured the win.
Logan Puhl led the Lancer offense during the morning match after tallying three goals. Toring Stanley followed closely with a brace and an assist. William Whitstone logged five saves during his 32 minutes between the posts.
CBU 28 - LIU 5
The second match of the day was a good opportunity for the Lancers to put away goals and get some work in defensively. Andrea Nuzzo and Aiden Olsen totaled four goals each during the afternoon match, while Michael Abshier, Owen Rauth, and Collin White picked up a hat trick. CBU scored over five goals in every frame for the most goals in a single match this season while also limiting the Sharks to just five goals in 32 minutes for the least amount of goals allowed this season. Whitstone showed out with a solid game against LIU, tallying ten saves for the second win of the tournament.
CBU will now turn its attention to the next West Coast Conference match against Air Force on Friday in Colorado Springs.
