RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University cross-country team is preparing for its third-straight trip to the NCAA DI West Regionals this Friday in Colfax, Washington.
The West Regionals will be hosted by Washington State University at the Colfax Golf Course in Eastern Washington. Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the race, with the women running the 6K and the men running a 10K. The West Region features several powerhouse programs, including Oregon, Stanford, Washington, Gonzaga, and Portland. In last year's west region, the men took 4th place in Sacramento behind Stanford, Gonzaga, and Portland, and the women also brought home 4th place, falling behind only Stanford, Oregon, and Washington.
In the most recent West Region rankings, the men are ranked fourth behind #7 Stanford, #12 Washington, and #15 Oregon and are currently #16 in the national poll. The men have been ranked as high as #14 in the National polls and have been a strong unit during the pre-championship season. The men took 3rd at the Joe Piane Invite and were 9th at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin. In their most recent outing, the men brought home their 5th consecutive Western Athletic Conference title, doing so with four runners in the top 10. First-year Head Coach Sean Smith was named the Coach of the Year on the men's side, while freshman phenom Zouhair Redouane was the WAC Freshman of the Year.
The women are 13th in the most recent West Region rankings, with #2 Oregon and #3 Washington pacing the loaded field. The women feature a very young squad with a long list of true freshmen who have made an immediate impact on CBU. Ava Dyck, in particular, has been a standout and was named WAC Freshman of the Year for her efforts this season. Dyck helped the Lancers finish runner-up at the WAC Championships in Orem this past week with a 10th-place finish.
The West Regionals will begin on Friday, November 15, starting at 11 AM PT for the Women's 6K and concluding with the Men's 10K at noon PT.
