BETHLEHEM, PA--- The California Baptist University wrestling team split its Saturday double dual at the Journeyman Classic by besting Buffalo and falling to Campbell at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Dual #1 vs Buffalo:
The day for CBU Wrestling began against the Buffalo Bulls as the Lancers won eight of the ten matches for the team's first dual win of the season. Hunter Leake put the first points on the board for the Lancers with a pin of Buffalo's Aidan Shufelt. Elijah Griffin and Paul Kelly compounded that win with a pair of major decisions to give CBU a decisive 14-3 lead over the Bulls.
Daniel Manibog made his first start for the Lancers at 157lbs after transferring from Oklahoma State and rang up three more points for the Lancers with a 12-5 decision over Kaleb Burgess. Drayden Morton would also add three points to the team's total after securing a takedown in a sudden victory over Hunter Shaut. CBU would earn three decisions in the next four matches to ride out the 29-6 win over Buffalo.
DUAL #2 vs RV Campbell:
The second dual of the afternoon came against the Fighting Camels of Campbell. The Camels featured five ranked wrestlers, including a top-ten ranked wrestler at heavyweight. The Lancers put together a strong showing, winning three matches in the dual, but would ultimately come up short 27-17.
Campell put up 11 points in the first three bouts as three of its ranked wrestlers would earn victories. CBU got on the board at 149lbs as Paul Kelly would secure six points after the Campbell wrestler was unable to continue after sustaining an injury in the second period of the match. Morton would add four points to CBU's total at 165 lbs after dominating Kendrick Hodge in a 13-4 major decision. #29 Nathan Haas would make things interesting at 184 lbs by bringing CBU to within striking distance after a major decision win over Cole Rees.
