
Lee Leads Lancers to Team Win at Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational

RIO VERDE, AZ--- The California Baptist Lancers had a strong weekend in Arizona at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational as Marc Machado's squad earned their second tournament championship this season. CBU finished with an 865 total score against 21 teams, as Esther Lee carded the lowest score individually as she finished tied in third place.
The opening round kicked off on Friday afternoon as Lee quickly jumped ahead in the standings, going 2-under par during the first round. Samantha Dizon and Pusanisa Ekkantrong both went even with par during the first round as the Lancers finished Friday in fourth as a team. Lee continued her low ways on Saturday morning as she finished 4-under par through the second round. Chabon showed well during the second round as well, scoring a 69 for her lowest round of the tournament. Burberry Zhang finished even with par to cap off Saturday for the Lancers.
California Baptist entered the third day of the tournament in second place, just a few strokes behind Xavier for the first-place spot. Ekkantrong was the only Lancer to go under par in the final round of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, as she posted a 3-under finishing score. Dizon came in clutch in the final four holes of the day, as she carded a 4-under final four holes to push the Lancers into a first-place finish. Individually, Lee finished tied for third of 104 golfers in Arizona. Ekkantrong finished well too, carding an eighth-place standing as Dizon finished tied for 24th. Chabon concluded tied for 30th while Zhang ended tied for 36th.
The Sunday win marks Machado's 18th team win as head coach for California Baptist at an NCAA-recognized event and the Lancer's second team win this season.
California Baptist is set to head south for the three-day Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Ball State from March 5th-7th.
