HUMACAO, PUERTO RICO--- The California Baptist women's golf team earned a second-place team finish at the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Ball State this week. True freshman Pusanisa Ekkantrong finished in front for the Lancers with a sixth-place finish after shooting even with par.
California Baptist started the three-day tournament well, posting a first-place finish after the first round with four Lancers going under par. Samantha Dizon, Sofia Chabon, and Ekkantrong all carded 2-under-par finishes on day one, while Burberry Zhang ended with a 71 final score. The second day of the tournament proved to be more challenging as all Lancers ended at least 2-over par but were able to hang on to a first-place standing.
Ekkantrong and Chabon led the way for CBU during the final round of the week, posting an even 72 round score. Zhang and Dizon ended by going just 1-over par, while Esther Lee finished 8-over. Chabon and Zhang picked up a ninth place standing, while Dizon rounded out the week with a 13th place finish and Lee ended in 39th.
This is the fourth time the Lancers have finished in the top five teams of a tournament this year. CBU will now turn their attention to the Fresno State Classic from March 25th through March 26th for their second-to-last tournament before the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.
