CLEVELAND--- The 2023-24 Learfield Director's Cup DI Winter Standings have been released, with California Baptist University prominently represented in the top ranks of the standings after a successful winter season.
The Lancers are the highest-ranking Western Athletic Conference School at 64th, with the next closest institution being Grand Canyon at 111th. CBU is also the second highest-ranking non-football university on the list, trailing only Gonzaga by seven spots.
CBU gained 51 points from the previous ranking in the fall and now has a total of 216.50 points. The 51-point increase was due to the successes of Women's Basketball and Wrestling on the national stage. The women's basketball program reached its first-ever NCAA DI Tournament in the winter after capturing the WAC Championships for the second time in program history. The women were seeded #15 in the tournament and took on UCLA for its first-ever game in the Big Dance.
The wrestling team also helped earn points for the Learfield rankings after two wrestlers earned their way into the National Tournament for the first time in program history. Elijah Griffin and Hunter Leake both earned spots in Kansas City, and Griffin pulled off the first two match wins for the Lancers via a decision and a pin.
