OREM, UT--- On a cold and windy day two of the 2024 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Greta Karinauskaite claimed her third straight Steeplechase crown while Lamaie Mamouni earned a second qualifying spot for Championship Saturday.
Karinauskaite earned the Lancers its first points of the weekend while claiming the WAC Women's Steeplechase crown for the third consecutive year. Karinauskaite blew her competition out of the water, crossing the finish line 50 seconds faster than her next closest competitor. In the 4,575 feet of elevation, Karinauskaite ran 9:57.29, which was her second-fastest WAC Championship time. The title added another trophy to an already full mantle for Karinauskaite and was the tenth time she has run a sub-10-minute pace in the steeplechase in her career.
Mamouni also had an impressive day for the Lancers as she earned her second qualifying placement for Championship Saturday. Mamouni earned a spot in the Women's 1.5K Finals on Thursday afternoon, and in the 800M prelims, she would earn a second. Mamouni would win her heat by a little over three seconds and would have the third fastest total time of the prelims, clocking in at 2:11.90. The time was one second behind her personal best that she set at the Bryan Clay Invitational and would earn her an automatic spot to Saturday's finals.
Karinauskaite and Mamouni will join a plethora of Lancers on Championship Saturday in pursuit of hardware and All-WAC honors at the Hal Wing Track. Track events for CBU begin at 1:50 PM MT with the Women's 1.5K and will conclude with the Men's 5K Finals at 4:30 PM MT. All events can be streamed live on ESPN+ and tracked via live results on Meettrax.
