RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist University wrestling released its 2024-25 schedule on Tuesday afternoon as they venture into year three of their transition into the BIG 12.
The schedule features several new opponents for the Lancers and many familiar foes in both the conference and non-conference slates. On the non-conference side of things, the Lancers will face a BIG 10 foe for the third consecutive season as they welcome in the Indiana Hoosiers on November 1 to the Dale E. & Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center. Other notable non-conference matchups include a road dual at Cal Poly in mid-January and a home dual against Southern Illinois on January 31.
On the conference side of things, CBU will have its first-ever conference matchups with Arizona State and West Virginia. The Sun Devils are one of the newest members of the BIG 12 Conference and the only program carrying over wrestling from the PAC-12 into the conference. That dual will be a local one for the Lancers as it will take place at Mt. SAC in Walnut, California, on Sunday, January 12. CBU will take its talents on the road for its first-ever matchup with West Virginia on Sunday, October 15. The Mountaineers have been one of the premier teams in the conference and finished 17th as a team at Nationals last season.
Derek Moore and his squad will also participate in several tournaments during the season, including the Midlands Invitational in late December and the Roadrunner Open in late November in Bakersfield, California. CBU will compete in other tournaments, including the Journeyman Classic, the Reno Tournament of Champions, and the Cliff Keen Invitational.
The Lancers are building off an incredibly promising 2023-24 campaign, in which they had two wrestlers earn bids to Nationals and came away with seven dual victories on the season. CBU is bringing back several strong returners, including Elijah Griffin and Hunter Leake, who were the Lancers representatives in Kansas City for Nationals. Leake and Griffin also became the first two BIG 12 placers by finishing 6th and 8th, respectively, in their weight classes.
The 2024-25 wrestling officially gets underway on Friday, November 1, against Indiana at the Dale E. & Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center.
