CLAREMONT--- The California Baptist men's water polo team headed west to Claremont, California, on Sunday for a pair of games against two Division III opponents. As expected, the Lancers came away with a 2-0 record on the day after taking down the University of La Verne 25-6 and besting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 18-12. CBU improves to 3-4 on the year.
CBU 25 - ULV 6
Bodhi Bowden kicked off the day in the pool with back-to-back goals that gave CBU an early lead that it would never relinquish during the next four quarters. The Leopards managed to find the back of the net thrice in the first frame, but nine total goals gave the Lancers a handsome lead heading into the second quarter. Rafa Martinez led the squad through the second set of eight minutes with a brace, putting CBU ahead 16-5 at the half.
La Verne was unable to convert any goals during the third and found the back of the cage once in the fourth quarter. California Baptist slotted nine more goals during the second half, solidifying a 19-point win. Trevor Alamilo had a solid game between the posts for the Lancers and tallied nine saves to lead the CBU goalkeepers. Owen Rauth and Andrea Nuzzo led the offense for the Lancers after scoring three goals apiece.
CBU 18 - CMS 12
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps came out hot during the Lancer's second match of the game and put away three goals in quick succession for an early lead that CBU could not match during the first quarter. The Lancers settled in the second quarter and netted five goals, tying the game at seven heading into halftime. In the third quarter, CBU gained the lead and immediately started pulling away while limiting CMS's goals to just three. Bowden netted a pair of goals to start the fourth quarter and ultimately sealed the game, giving the Lancers their third win this season.
Bowden ended the second game of the day with four goals, while Logan Puhl finished with three against CMS.
California Baptist will now turn its attention to a match on Friday versus West Coast Conference opponent Pepperdine for their first meeting of the season in Malibu.
