MSOC PREVIEW: Highlanders Visit CBU For 2024 Crosstown Showdown

RIVERSIDE - California Baptist men's soccer returns to the CBU Soccer Stadium this week to host UC Riverside in the annual Crosstown Showdown. This Riverside Derby has grown in competitiveness and intensity over the past few years as both teams have recently found NCAA postseason success.
The Lancers 2024 record of 1-3-3 is not a complete picture of their season. As it stands, the Lancers' strength of schedule so far this season is ranked No. 7 overall in the NCAA. Though the record may not be reflective of what might be desired on paper, the experience and resume that CBU has gathered this non-conference season will be invaluable as the season goes on and conference play begins next week.

The Highlanders will visit the campus of CBU, having won their most recent match against Western Athletic Conference foe Air Force in Colorado Springs, 2-0. That victory improved UCR's record to 2-4 on the year, having also claimed a victory at LMU on September 6. UC Riverside has fallen to two other WAC opponents, opening the season with a 5-2 decision in favor of San Diego State, followed six days later to a 2-1 loss to Utah Tech at UCR Soccer Stadium.
UCR is led by a duo of scoring threats, Noah Lopez and Luka Lukic, who have three goals apiece this season, including both goals in the recent victory at Air Force. Carlos Gonzalez has played every minute this season for UCR between the sticks, making 22 saves in six games while owning a save percentage of just 62.9%.
