RIVERSIDE --- Junior Stavros Charalampous salvaged a 1-1 draw for the Lancers on Thursday night, as the visiting Rebels of UNLV looked to play spoiler of CBU's WAC home opener. The second-half strike salvaged a point for CBU, who are now 0-1-1 through two conference matches.
Â
CBU's overall record now sits at 5-2-3.
Â
"Unfortunately, we just weren't at the level we are capable of tonight," said head coach Coe Michaelson. "We had plenty of possession and plenty of set pieces, but we just weren't dangerous enough from an attacking perspective. It's important for all of us to look in the mirror and respond on Sunday."
Charalampous' strike came in the 79th minute of the match, following a UNLV goal from Bryce Allred seven minutes earlier. Blake D'Agostino set up the CBU goal with a pass to Charalampous, who then took a right-footed swing on his third touch from over 25 yards out.
Â
Â
The goal is Charalampous' third of the season.
Â
CBU applied pressure throughout Thursday's match, registering 16 shots to nine from the Rebels. Five of the 16 attempts finished on frame, with UNLV goalkeeper Hugo Lemos finishing with four saves.
Â
Goalkeeper Hugo Do Rego wrapped up the draw with two saves.
Â
CBU finished the match holding possession for 57 percent of the contest. The Lancers totaled 11 corner kicks compared to three from the Rebels.
Â
The Lancers will be back in action on their home turf this Sunday when the Lopes of Grand Canyon pay a visit to Riverside. GCU beat San Diego State, 1-0, on Thursday to improve to 2-0-0 in WAC play.
