RIVERSIDE --- The 2-0 Lancers will be back in action inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center on Friday, as Western Illinois makes its first-ever visit to CBU. With a week of rest behind them, the Lancers will look to start 3-0 for the first time since 2021.
CBU last took the court on Friday, November 7, when they visited the Anteaters of UC Irvine. The Lancers started slow, trailing 11-0 before Dominique Daniels Jr. sank CBU's first basket of the game. That flipped the momentum switch as the Lancers went on to win, 69-61.
Daniels Jr. was later named the first WAC Player of the Week for the 2025-26 season. The graduate guard paired a 19.5 PPG average with 6.5 APG over CBU's two games last week.
In town for the Parent & Family Weekend matchup are the Leathernecks of Western Illinois. WIU will wrap up its West Coast tour, which began on Tuesday with a 74-58 loss against CSU Bakersfield. The Leathernecks are 0-3 to start the season, with additional losses coming against Radford and Iowa.
Friday will be the end of four consecutive road games for WIU to start the season. They will welcome Coe College on Monday for the first home date of the year.
Offensively, four players are averaging double-figures for WIU. Isaiah Griffin is leading the way with 14.3 PPG, paired with 6.7 RPG. Lucas Lorenzen and Francis Okwuosah are both averaging 12.7 PPG, and Tyran Cook is posting 10.0 PPG. The Leathernecks have put up 63.7 PPG through three matchups, with opponents putting up 77.0 PPG.
The Lancers have also done a good job of spreading the ball around the court. Martel Williams is coming off 17 points and a career-high seven rebounds against UCI. Through two games, Williams is averaging 14.5 PPG. Thomas Ndong leads the team in rebounding with 8.5 RPG, aided by a career-high 12 boards in Irvine. Ndong is scoring 9.5 PPG. Jonathan Griman is also averaging 9.5 PPG to pair with 7.5 RPG. Griman finished the Irvine win with a double-double of ten points and ten rebounds.
Friday night is the first of three straight home games for the Lancers. The homestand continues on Tuesday when UC Riverside enters the Fowler Events Center for the Crosstown Showdown. Grambling State will end the homestand on November 21.
Following the homestand, CBU will not play inside the Fowler Events Center again until December 16.
Tickets for all non-conference home games are on sale HERE. Friday night's ticket will also come with admission to the women's game against San Jose State at 5 p.m.
