IRVINE, CA --- The 1-0 Lancers are taking their talents to the road, as a matchup with future conference rival UC Irvine is next on the slate. Coming off an 87-75 victory against USC-Upstate on Monday, CBU will next take on a team whose 2024-25 season ended in the NIT championship game.
CBU kicked off the 2025-26 season on Monday night with 4,386 fans filing into the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center. Monday's attendance was the highest of any institution in California, on what was the official starting date of the NCAA basketball season.
The CBU Crazies were treated to another great performance by guard Dominique Daniels Jr., as the graduate dropped 15 of his 23 points in the second half. Daniels also set up his teammates with six assists, matching his career high.
There were also several new faces making an impact for the Lancers, as 37 of CBU's 87 points came from members of coach Rick Croy's recruiting class. Thomas Ndong dropped 14 points in his 24 minutes out of the starting lineup. Jayden Jackson also contributed to the scoring from the starting five, posting ten points to pair with eight rebounds. Miles Daniels came off the bench and added 11 points, four assists, and two steals.
Senior Martel Williams also ended the night in double-figures, finishing with 12 points and four boards.
Irvine opened the season on Monday night against the Flames of Bethesda. The Anteaters had little to worry about, as they put up a 40-minute rout in a 125-49 victory.
Five Anteaters closed the night in double-figures, led by Kyle Evans with 22 and Jurian Dixon with 21. Tama Isaac closed opening night with a double-double, pairing 18 points with ten assists. Harrison Carrington (15) and Jovan Jester Jr. (15) also ended the evening in double figures.
UC Irvine connected on 47-of-77 from the field, with an assist registering on 34 field goals. The 34 assists set a new program record.
The Lancers and Anteaters met last season in Riverside, with Irvine winning 71-63. The Anteaters went on to finish 32-7 last season, with their year ending in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as UC Irvine lost by one point in overtime against Chattanooga in the NIT championship game.
Friday's game is slated for 7:30 p.m. from the Bren Events Center in Irvine. Select tickets have been released to the CBU Ticketing Office and are available HERE.
