
CBU Finishes with Eight Placers at the Cyclone Invitational

AMES, IA--- The California Baptist University wrestling team opened its season on Saturday as it competed in the Cyclone Invitational for the first time in program history.
The tournament featured #4 Iowa State, #27 Wisconsin, RV Utah Valley, SIUE, and the Lancers. CBU would earn six placers in the tournament, including four wrestlers finishing on the podium in third place and two more earning fifth-place titles.
Cooper Shore made his debut for the Lancers after spending the past few seasons at Campbell and would be the first placer for Derek Moore, finishing in third. Shore defeated Adrian Meza and Ethan Perryman of Iowa State to claim the placement, including defeating Perryman 8-5 by decision for the Third-Place finish. Remy Murillo would also earn placement by doing so at 133lbs. Murillo had a tough opening round draw, facing #4 Zan Fugitt, who was an All-American a season ago for the Wisconsin Badgers. Murillo would drop the match to Fugitt but would take wins over Talen Eck of Utah Valley and Devin Bobzien to place fifth.
Richie Clementi would make his collegiate debut at 141lbs and would finish 6th with wins over Jason Worthley and Peter Tomazevic of Wisconsin. Paul Kelly would place fifth as well with a technical fall over Kayd Craig of Utah Valley. Drayden Morton would earn his way onto the podium at 157lbs with wins over Kane Naaktgeboren of Iowa State and Hayden Whidden of SIUE to finish third. Mason Espinoza would also take home the third-place title at 174lbs, doing so with wins over Hudson Rogers and Dominic Lopez.
At 197lbs, Eli Sheeren would claim another third-place title for the Lancers while Adonis Bonar II would finish 6th as the final placer for CBU. Overall, the Lancers would have eight placers and four wrestlers finishing on the podium.
NEXT: The Lancers will make their dual debut on Saturday, November 15, against #18 Stanford at Van Dyne Gym.
