RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University wrestling team celebrated six seniors on Saturday afternoon as they battled North Dakota State in their final BIG 12 dual of the season. The visiting Bisons would win seven of the ten matches en route to claiming the 24-13 victory in Van Dyne Gym.
The dual began at 165lbs as Daniel Manibog would square off with Boeden Greenely. Manibog surrendered an early takedown to the NDSU wrestler but would even up the score in the second period with a takedown of his own to make things interesting. Greenley earned another takedown in the third period that would ultimately seal the victory as NDSU earned the first points of the dual. The Bisons collected three more points at 174 lbs and would compound that with bonus points at 184 lbs via #32 Aidan Brenot to take an early 10-0 lead.
CBU would put its first points of the dual on the board in dramatic fashion at 197lbs, where Eli Sheeren would take on Tayshaun Glover. Sheeren gave up an early takedown in the first period but would regain the lead in the second period with a takedown and an escape point. In the third period, Sheeren would overpower Glover, forcing him to the mat to earn the fall and give the Lancers a much-needed six points on the scoreboard. NDSU would steal back the momentum with ten points over the next three matches, including bonus points at 133 lbs from two-time NCAA qualifier #23 Kyle Burwick.
CBU would get back on the board at 141 lbs as senior Brady Hoshino earned a dominating major decision against Gideon Abel-Cole. Hoshino got busy early with two takedowns in the first period to rack up an early 6-1 lead over NDSU. Hoshino would get back points in the third period and added another takedown to pull away with the 14-3 victory and putting four on the board for the Lancers. NDSU would close the door on any potential comeback at 149lbs as #31 Gavin Drexler would earn bonus points to put the dual out of reach. Drayden Morton would give CBU its third match win of the dual in the final bout as he defeated Maxwell Peterson 5-1 to round out the score 24-13 in favor of NDSU.
