ANAHEIM, CA--- The California Baptist cheer program headed to Orange County over the weekend to compete in the USA Collegiate Championships. The Lancers placed in the top three of all their categories, securing first place in the College Fight Song category amongst 12 programs in Division I.
Within the one-day Game Day Championships competition, California Baptist earned second in the College Band Chant category after tying with CSU San Marcos, scoring 90.5. Just ahead was Utah Tech with a 94.6, which was good for a first-place finish. The first-place finish came during the College Fight Song category for CBU. The Lancers bested 11 other programs with a 95.7 final score, outscoring US San Diego and New Mexico State for the win.
Within the two-day Show Cheer Division competition, California Baptist faired well in the three separate divisions it competed in. CBU's group stunt that featured Regan Clark, Harmony Manuel, Rachel Puleo, and McKenzie Tindall flew past prelims with a zero deduction routine with a 95.0. The group stunt would ultimately go on to finish first in its division, securing first place with a 95.5 ahead of CSU Fullerton and the College of Southern Idaho. On the other side of the mat, the Lancers also competed with two teams in both four-year college all-girl routines at the intermediate and advanced divisions. The White Squad, competing in the intermediate division, finished first in the prelims ahead of CSU Northridge and secured a championship finish with a 93.9 score during finals. The Blue Crew, competing in the advanced section, finished second after prelims, just behind Utah Valley by two points. The Wolverines would ultimately go on to win the category in the finals as well by four points, leaving CBU in second place ahead of Waseda University of Japan in third.
The Lancers will now begin preparing for NCA College Nations in Daytona, Florida, from April 9th through the 13th.
