LAS VEGAS, NV--- California Baptist's cheer team participated in the NCA/USA College Camp this week to compete for an invitation to Nationals and kick off the season. The Lancers came away with 18 All-Americans and three first-place finishes at the Las Vegas camps.
Each year, teams from all over the country, across all divisions, compete at the NCA/USA Collegiate Camp, hoping to earn honors heading into the season and a ticket to compete at the national championship in April. This marks the seventh-straight season the cheer team has earned paid bids since transitioning into NCAA Division I.
"I'm incredibly proud of how both teams performed and represented our program and CBU with excellence—these are two strong teams, and this is just the beginning of an amazing season ahead," remarked Head Coach Olivia Quick.
California Baptist was the most awarded collegiate all-girl program at the 30-team camp, securing second place among all programs and finishing just behind Weber State's Large Coed program. The Lancer Advanced All-Girl team won a Gold Paid Bid to NCA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, for their first-place finish in the Advanced All-Girl DI Division. This CBU squad also secured a second-place finish in the Rally Routine Competition behind Utah Valley University.
Quick's Intermediate All-Girl team also earned a Gold Paid Bid to NCA College Nationals in Daytona after securing a first-place finish in the Intermediate All-Girl DI/DII Division and a first-place award in the Rally Routine Competition. The Lancers defeated Sonoma State University, CSUN, and Fresno Pacific University on their way to the top.
The NCA Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida, are set for April 8th through the 11th at the Daytona Beach Bandshell and Ocean Center.
