RIVERSIDE—- The Western Athletic Conference announced the year-end awards on Thursday afternoon and California Baptist women's golf was well represented during the 2024-2025 awards. As voted on by WAC Coaches, Marc Machado was named Co-Coach of the Year and Lisa Shimmon was honored as Freshman of the Year.
Machado's recognition comes as no surprise after an very successful season. The seasoned coach led his squad to two team tournaments wins and two individual tournament wins this year, marking one of the successful seasons for the CBU women's golf program in the Division I Era. Machado has now accumulated 24 team victories and 21 individual victories during his tenure with the Lancers. This award is Machado's third Coach of the Year award as a Lancer.
Shimmon had a stellar freshman season, securing three top-ten individual finishes during her debut season. Her best tournament came at the Seattle U Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, where she placed fourth of 98 golfers with a 4-under par three-round score. Shimmon's scoring average was 75.3, the fourth best on the talented team. Shimmon is CBU's second Freshman of the Year after Pusanisa Ekkantrong was the FOY during the 2023-2034 season.
In addition to Machado and Shimmon, Samantha Dizon and Ekkantrong were both named the All-WAC Second Team. Dizon opened the 2024-2025 season strong, posting a first place finish at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational after going even with par. She led the Lancers to their team tournament win at that very tournament as well and posted four top-ten finishes during her junior campaign. The second-team award marks her second conference award during her CBU career. Ekkantrong carded her second first-place finish of her career at the Rio Verde Invitational after posting a 9-under par, earning four top-ten finishes this season. She ends the year with a scoring average of 74.4 and earns her second collegiate postseason award.
California Baptist women's golf ends the season at national rank of 113, totaling four top-three tournament finishes as team.
