TACOMA, Wash. – CBU women's golf continued its strong start to the fall season, climbing two spots on the final day to finish fifth out of 17 teams at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational.
The Lancers entered the final round in seventh place before putting together a strong finish to move into the top five. CBU finished ahead of two Pac-12 teams and three Big West teams in the 17-team field.
"I'm happy with the TEAM's fight during this event," said head coach Marc Machado. "We battled sickness without any excuses. They all represented CBU with pride. Lots of positives to build on as we head into Arkansas."
Junior Shuyi Cao led the way individually for the Lancers, tying for 10th overall at one-over for the tournament. Cao opened with rounds of 74 and 70 before closing with a one-over 73 in the final round.
Senior Pusanisa Ekkantrong provided one of CBU's strongest final-round performances, carding a two-under 70 to finish tied for 17th at three-over for the tournament. Ekkantrong opened the tournament with rounds of 71 and 78 before finishing with her two-under round. She also earned the team's Clutch Award and Feather Fight Award after finishing the final four rounds at one-under and recording 12 birdies throughout the tournament.
Senior Burberry Zhang also tied for 17th at three-over. Zhang closed the tournament with an even-par 72 after shooting rounds of 74 and 73 during the opening two rounds.
Junior Lisa Shimmon finished tied for 32nd at seven-over after posting rounds of 74, 76 and 73, while sophomore Kornchanok Triyakul rounded out the Lancers' lineup with rounds of 75, 79 and 81 to finish at 19-over.

CBU will have a week off before returning to action at the Diamante Intercollegiate in Arkansas, Oct. 18-20. The Lancers have found success at the tournament in the past and will look to carry their strong fall-season start into their next competition.
