Ezekwuka’s Three Point Night Lifts CBU Back into the Win Column

TULSA, OK --- Junior Felix Ezekwuka netted his first CBU goal and dished out an assist on Tuesday night, as his three-point performance helped guide the Lancers to a 3-1 victory in Tulsa. The victory puts CBU back in the win column, pushing the Lancers to 4-1-1 on the season.
Tuesday's date with the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa was slated to be the finale of a two-match road trip, but due to West Virginia's field issues forcing a cancellation of last week's match, the trip to the Sooner State ended up being CBU's lone match away from Riverside.
Ezekwuka was the star of the show on Tuesday in the Sooner State. The Londoner netted his first CBU goal ten minutes into the match after a great pass from fellow Englishman Liam Jones created the breakaway chance. Ezekukwa used his footwork to evade a Tulsa defender, setting up a successful strike on goal inside 18 yards.

Less than one minute later, the Lancers were knocking on the door again as sophomore Blake D'Agostino was taken down in the penalty area. The center official turned to replay assistance to confirm a foul had occurred, resulting in a penalty attempt for D'Agostino.
The sophomore striker converted on the penalty, pushing his goal-scoring streak to five matches.
Tulsa netted their lone goal of the night in the 26th minute, but goalkeeper Hugo Do Rego proved to be a stonewall as he ended the night with a season-high seven saves.
The 2-1 advantage held for nearly an hour until freshman Alexander Cruz netted the first goal of his collegiate career, giving the Lancers a needed insurance tally. An assist from Ezekwuka set up the goal.

"We started the game well with two quick goals, but the second half was particularly good," said head coach Coe Michaelson. "For a while, it had a similar feel to Fullerton in the sense that we had chances to put the game away and didn't, but I think it's a huge testament to the guys' mentality that we kept playing and creating chances and eventually put the game away. Learning to finish games is so important for us, and tonight we did much better."
Michaelson added, "Our attack is also clicking. Blake was a handful as usual, and Felix was exceptional tonight. After having his pre-season disrupted a bit, it's nice to see him starting to look fit and sharp. I also thought Kieran, Luke, and Leon did a great job second half alongside Uly and Stavi to see out the game. Lots of guys stepping up tonight and playing a key role for a good road win."
Now six matches into the season, the Lancers have two more dates away from the WAC remaining, with both occurring in Riverside. CBU will be home on Monday, September 22, to battle No. 20-ranked UC Irvine. The Crosstown Showdown will follow on Friday, September 26, when the Lancers visit UC Riverside.
