10/20/2026 12:36:00 PM | Men's Soccer
SANTA BARBARA, CA --- California Baptist men's soccer is scheduled to visit UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday in the second of three Big West/Pac-12 crossover matches. Following the Lancers' first draw of the season, CBU takes a short hiatus from conference play as the regular season reaches its penultimate week.
Â
The Lancers come into Wednesday's bout, their 15th match of the season, sitting at 10-3-1 overall. CBU is tied with Oregon State for the top spot in the Pac-12, with each team having one conference match remaining.
Â
CBU's final conference match will be on Saturday when the Lancers visit UC San Diego. The Beavers, who hold the tiebreaker over the Lancers thanks to head-to-head victory, close the conference season on October 31 vs. Gonzaga.
Â
Awaiting the Lancers during this break from conference play are the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches' Poll and sit third in the Big West with eight points and a 2-0-2 conference record. Overall, the Gauchos are 8-3-4 this season. Â
Â
In the RPI, UCSB entered Tuesday at No. 32, while the Lancers sit at No. 62. A CBU win on Wednesday would qualify as a quad one victory.
Â
UCSB and CBU have played similar schedules, with nine of the Gauchos matches being against common opponents of the Lancers. The Gauchos are 6-2-1 against common opponents, with their two losses coming against San Diego and Oregon State, both of which have also beaten the Lancers.
Â
The Gauchos are unbeaten in their last five outings coming into Wednesday, including victories in three straight. The Lancers are unbeaten in nine of their last ten matches, with eight of those results being victories.
Â
Saturday's draw against San Diego State was the first of the season for CBU and snapped a streak of 32 matches in which the Lancers have scored at least one goal. Saturday's shutout marked the first time CBU was held scoreless since a 1-0 loss to Utah Valley on November 3, 2024. It was, however, the Lancers' eighth shutout of an opponent this year, giving CBU the fourth-highest shutout percentage in the nation. Freshman Ulrik Stroem has been in goal for seven of those clean sheets, placing him third in Division I in that category.
Â
Stroem did not face a shot on goal in Saturday's draw. The Lancers tallied two looks on frame on the attacking end, one via Drew Hardin and the other from Stavros Charalampous.
Â
Wednesday will be just the third meeting between the Lancers and Gauchos since CBU transitioned to Division I. The series is split, with both sides owning a win on their home field. The Lancers last visited Santa Barbara in 2022.
Â
The action is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara. Fans can stream the match on ESPN+.
