Lancers Push Streak to Nine with Win in Cedar City

CEDAR CITY, UT --- California Baptist pushed its win streak to nine games on Thursday with an 83-66 win over Southern Utah. With the help of other results around the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), the Lancers moved into a one-game lead for first place.
CBU is now 9-3 in WAC play. Utah Valley, which entered the night tied with the Lancers, lost to Utah Tech on Thursday. Utah Tech is now 8-4 and will see the Lancers on Saturday in St. George.
Dominique Daniels Jr. was once again the star of the show as he eclipsed 30 points for the fifth time this season. Daniels Jr. finished with 32 points on 12-of-24 from the field, adding a trio of 3-pointers to his scoring line.
Martel Williams also had a big night for CBU as he finished with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jonathan Griman also closed the night in double figures, doing so with 12 points on 6-of-8 from the field.
Isaiah Cottrell led Southern Utah with 24 points on 9-of-12 from the floor.
After a 3-pointer from Elijah Duval with 15:18 remaining in the first half gave SUU a two-point advantage, CBU responded with a triple from Williams to give the Lancers a lead they would hold for the final 35 minutes of regulation.
CBU's lead jumped up to 20 in the second half, and the Lancers saw their advantage grow thanks to a 14-0 run, their largest scoring run of the night.
The Lancers shot nearly 50 percent (34-for-70) from the field in the win, posting a six percent better night than their opponents. The Lancers also won the rebound battle, pulling down 42 boards to 30 by the Thunderbirds.
Bradey Henige pulled down eight boards. Griman contributed five.
The Lancers will continue their road trip on Saturday, traveling to St. George to play Utah Tech. CBU won both of its previous meetings with the Trailblazers. The Lancers will also be in Utah next week for the third meeting with Utah Valley.
Saturday's game is slated for 5 p.m. (PT).
