Lancers Hang on to Claim Longest Win Streak in Division I Era
2/7/2026 8:57:00 PM | Men's Basketball
RIVERSIDE --- No Division I men's basketball team at CBU has been able to say they won eight in a row, until tonight, as the Lancers made history inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center. In a game that came down to the final possession, CBU held on to beat Abilene Christian, 65-63.
The Lancers are now 8-3 in WAC action, with all eight wins coming in a row, keeping CBU tied with Utah Valley for first place in the conference standings.
Saturday's game came down to the bitter end, as the final minutes provided a heart-rate-increasing sequence of basketball. After leading for the majority of the night, CBU relinquished the lead with 3:54 to go when a dunk from Rich Smith put ACU on top, 55-53. Both teams traded baskets over the next two minutes, but then CBU caught momentum when a three-point play by Dominique Daniels Jr. put the Lancers on top by one with 1:35 to go.
Daniels Jr. extended the lead to three with a successful trip to the line on CBU's next possession, but then ACU cut within one on a tip-in basket. The Lancers were not phased as freshman Jordan Muller pushed the lead to two possessions with a 3-pointer with 22 seconds showing on the clock.
ACU cut within two and had a chance at sending the game to overtime, or winning the game, with less than ten seconds left. The Wildcats opted for the win, an attempt that was missed, sending the 3,000 fans in Riverside into a roar of excitement.
Daniels Jr. was the offensive leader once again as he scored 21 points to pair with five assists. Martel Williams followed up his strong showing on Thursday with 12 points in Saturday's win. Jayden Jackson closed with nine.
Bradyn Hubbard led ACU with 16 points.
The Lancers have six remaining games in the regular season, as the race for seeding in the WAC Tournament heats up. CBU will play its next three games in Utah, starting with Southern Utah before taking the Lancers to St. George for a meeting with Utah Tech. The third installment of the regular season series with Utah Valley comes on February 19 in Orem.
CBU will be back in Riverside on February 26 to host UT Arlington, followed by Tarleton State on February 28 for homecoming.
