RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University STUNT team brought home its fifth consecutive JOUST Championship on Saturday evening as they defeated the Hawaii Pacific Sharks and the Jessup Warriors in the Fowler Events Center.
The wins bring CBU's overall record to 19-0 and 126-0 in program history.
The Lancers faced the Hawaii Pacific Sharks in the semifinal match in the first game, and they would again sweep the Sharks 24-0 as they did on the opening day of the Joust. CBU earned the perfect score and would advance to the Championship game. Kate Zaragoza was dubbed the MVP of the match with 43 points, Ava Hersman was the Stunter of the Game (36 points), while Alecius York was the Tumbler of the Game (22 points).
In the Championship game, the Lancers would face Jessup, which advanced to the title game after defeating Arizona State in its semifinal match. Jessup would earn a healthy number of points in the match, but the Lancers would never drop a point and would win the Championship match by a final score of 39-15, for their highest-scoring match of the season to date.
In the win, CBU earned four girls on the All-Tournament Team, including Layla Langrell (MVP), Maddison Arochi (First Team), Ella Hodson (First Team), and Cailyn Perryman (First Team), all earning spots after phenomenal weekends.
NEXT: The Lancers will compete at the Music City STUNT Classic beginning on Thursday, March 19, in Nashville, Tennessee.
