Riverside-native Josh Dunaj joined the CBU men's basketball staff in 2013 as an assistant coach under head coach Rick Croy. He became the Director of Men's Basketball Operations prior to the Lancers' move to Division I in 2018.
Dunaj spent three seasons as an assistant coach for Head Coach Jim Saia at Cal State San Marcos, helping Saia start the program from scratch. After building the program from the ground up in 2010-11, the Cougars went a combined a 42-19 in their two seasons as a program, culminating in a 23-7 finish this past season, which included the program’s first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance.
Prior to his time at Cal State San Marcos, Dunaj spent five seasons at Citrus College with Croy. He began his coaching career immediately after graduating from Concordia in 2005 and in 2008 he and Croy led Citrus to a 35-1 record and a state championship.
His last two years at Citrus, Dunaj was the associate head coach, leading the Owls to two league titles and a state semifinal berth in 2010.
As a player, Dunaj, who prepped at Riverside-Poly High, played three seasons at Westmont before transferring to Concordia in 2005 for his senior season. As a 2005 senior, Dunaj played in 32 games, starting four of them, helping Concordia to a 26-9 mark and an appearance in the NAIA Tournament. In four collegiate seasons, Dunaj appeared in 105 games and was a part of three 20-win teams and three NAIA National Tournaments.
Dunaj graduated from Concordia in 2005 with a bachelor’s in exercise sports science and earned his master’s in physical education from Azusa Pacific in 2006. He and his wife, Angela, live in Riverside with their daughters Whitney and Goldie.
