Zach Lowery was named California Baptist University men's water polo's assistant coach in August 2022. Lowery took over the position right after a standout playing career for the Lancers that spanned five seasons (2017-21). In his first season with CBU, the Lancers finished 23-13 and set their DI program record for wins with 23. CBU defeated four ranked opponents on the season and beat Air Force 10-9 in the WWPA Championships. Lowery also helped lead the Lancers to their first-time wins over Santa Barbara, UOP, and #5 Pepperdine. Lowery was a two-time Western Water Polo Association First Team selection, and earned NCAA Division I All-America Honorable Mention and WWPA All-Tournament First Team recognition in his final collegiate season. He graduated as the program's all-time record holder for assists (217), multi-assist games (67) and games with a goal, assist and steal (61). He also set single-season records with 22 multi-assist games and tied CBU's single-game record with seven assists against Fresno Pacific on Oct. 8, 2021. Lowery is originally a two-time Texas State MVP before coming to college. He is married to a fellow Lancer in Kira O'Donell, a standout for CBU women's water polo from 2018-22. The couple attends The Grove Community Church and resides in Riverside.
