Seth Taylor returned to California Baptist University in 2015 as an assistant coach, after grabbing experience at NCAA Division I the University of Toledo as the first assistant coach for the 2014 Spring and Fall seasons. In that time frame, the Rockets competed against Notre Dame, Michigan, and Pittsburg, defeating Big 10 Opponent Ohio State and advancing to the Mid-American Conference quarterfinal.
In the spring of 2015, Taylor ran the Rockets as the Interim Head Coach and led the team to an undefeated spring season (5-0), coaching Columbian national team player Isabella Echeverri who competed in the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada. Off the pitch, the UT women's soccer team held the highest GPA of any sports program, finishing the spring with a 3.64 team GPA.
Since returning to California Baptist University, Taylor has helped the program improve its record in each of the four years he has contributed. In 2017, the program won the Pac West Championship and competed in the NCAA tournament. In 2018 and 2019, Taylor helped the Lancers achieve a record of 25-10-2 with back-to-back record-setting seasons as a new NCAA D1 program.
One of the most impressive accomplishments during Taylor's time at CBU is the number of awards the team has won during his tenure as Recruiting Coordinator. Through his time at CBU, Taylor has recruited and coached 11 All-Americans, 21 All-Region Players, 50 All-Conference Players, and three Conference Players of the Year. The team also has had an impressive 128 Scholars Athletes during this time.
In Taylor's first stint with the Lancers, he helped lead the Lancers to two PacWest Conference titles and two NCCAA National Championships in 2011 and 2012, posting an impressive 48-9-3 overall ledger during this time. In 2013, CBU finished 12-5-1 overall and 10-2 in the PacWest to finish in second place. In its first season eligible for post-season action, the Lancers grabbed the 'conference's automatic qualifier to make their inaugural trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
In Taylor's first year at CBU, the Lancers set a new program wins mark, going 18-2-1 and winning a first-ever NCCAA National Championship. Through four matches of NCCAA regional and national tournament play, the Lancers outscored opponents 12-1 to win the title.
In the 2022 season, the Lancers went 8-5-5 and made the WAC tournament in their first year eligible. CBU produced two more All-WAC honorees in Lourdes Bosch (First-Team) and Taylor Summit (Second-Team) and had three players on the All-Region Team with Bosch, Summit and Ari Coronado.
Before coming to CBU, Taylor spent two seasons as an assistant 'women's soccer coach at NCAA Division II member Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. While there, the Panthers were a combined 23-7-6, spent time in the NAIA Top 25 and narrowly missed out on an NAIA National Tournament berth in 2009, losing in penalty kicks in the Association of Independent Institution finals to Cal State San Marcos.
Though removed from his playing days, Taylor has a wealth of coaching and administrative experience. In addition to his collegiate coaching duties, Taylor also served as the camp director and coach for the MLS Columbus Crew Soccer Camp, organizing their residential and speed and agility camps and working with the Crew coaching staff. In 2013, Taylor was employed by the MLS Vancouver White Caps to scout Far West Region players for the MLS First Team and development academy.
Taylor currently holds an NSCAA Premier Coaching Diploma, which is the highest level diploma given through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He also received his NSCAA Regional Goalkeeping Diploma and his NSCAA Collegiate Professional Development Certificate. He has coached at the club level, including coaching the Ohio North State ODP U13-14 team, Legends FC, Laguna Hills Eclipse FC, and Ohio Premier FC.
A 2008 graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Taylor was a four-year starter and two-time All-America Mideast Conference selection. He was also a two-time National Christian College Athletic Association Academic All-American and led MVNU to a third-place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament.
Taylor graduated with a bachelor's degree in middle childhood education and then earned a 'master's degree in education in May 2011 from Ohio Dominican. He married his wife Bryna on July 23, 2016.
