CBU's Season Comes to a Close in Kansas

LAWRENCE, KS--- An active first half of the NCAA First Round Tournament match-up between #3 Kansas University and the California Baptist women's soccer program would prove fruitful for the home squad, securing the tournament win 3-1. The Lancers put up an impressive fight against the three-seed Jayhawks and finish their season 12-9-2.
Kansas found the back of the net early with a perfectly placed header that found the backpost for a 1-0 lead. KU would add another before Anja Jestrovic would step in to stop the bleed for the Lancers, driving a ball from nearly midfield that snuck past the Jayhawk goalkeeper for her first NCAA Tournament goal. CBU gained momentum off their goal and continued to threaten the KU backline, but a counterattack would secure Kansas' third goal of the half.
The second set of 45 minutes was extremely competitive as both defenses were incredible in keeping both sides at zero. Summer Allen came up huge for the Lancers in the last 20 minutes with a goal-line save off a KU corner kick to keep CBU within two of tying the match. The Lancers totaled five shots on goal through the match compared to KU's 12.
CBU's season comes to a close, but not after another historic year to finish the program's time in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lancers were crowned back-to-back WAC Tournament Champions via comeback wins, and it was the third consecutive season CBU has won a major conference postseason award. Ava Westlund sits atop the scoring stats for California Baptist after ending with nine goals and five assists, followed closely behind by Jestrovic with eight goals and eight assists. Mikayla O'Brien was dominant in goal this season for the Lancers, finishing her season with 88 saves and a WAC Goalkeeper of the Year title.
California Baptist will join the Big West Conference during the Summer of 2026, ending their time in the WAC.
